Bug Scouts: Out in the Wild!

by Mike Lowery

From New York Times bestselling illustrator Mike Lowery comes a wild and hilarious Graphix Chapters series featuring the amazing Bug Scouts!

"Raise your leg or antenna, and make the BUG SCOUT pact:

"I promise to fly, I promise to crawl

Or make a cool web, or roll into a ball.

I pledge to be brave and adventurous too.

And do all of the things that bugs like to do!"

Meet Doug, Abby, and Josh: the BUG SCOUTS! Doug and Abby love everything about being Bug Scouts: their super-duper top-secret headquarters, earning bug badges, wearing scout gear, and, of course, snacks. Josh, meanwhile, is a grump and doesn’t like anything (except the snacks). The Bug Scouts begin to work on earning the "foraging" bug badge, which they can only get if they successfully find an edible plant. Together, they head into the woods in search for adventure and something to eat. But will they be able to avoid the poisonous plants and manage to not get eaten by a clever frog?!

With laugh-out-loud humor, puns galore, kid-friendly artwork, and endless heart, Bug Scouts is the perfect early graphic novel series for enthusiasts of Dog Man, Narwhal and Jelly, and CatStronauts. So get on your hiking boots, put on your binoculars, and head into wacky adventures with THE BUG SCOUTS.

Graphix Chapters are ideal books for beginning and newly independent readers. With approachable page counts, easy-to-follow paneling, and artwork that supports text comprehension, these engaging stories with unforgettable characters help children become lifelong readers.

Buzzkill: A Wild Wander Through the Weird and Threatened World of Bugs

by Brenna Maloney and Dave Mottram

The praying mantis is the only animal on Earth with one ear―and it’s in the middle of its chest. Aphids are born pregnant. Moths can’t fly during an earthquake. If you didn’t know these things, you soon will. Packed full of jaw-dropping facts, Buzzkill presents the big picture on bugs. You might think ew, gross. Insects are icky. Or scary. Or dangerous. They can be. But there’s so much more you need to know.

Insects play a critical role on our planet, from sustenance to pollination to medicines and more. Brenna Maloney tackles both the wacky and weird, as well as threats to insects and their habitats, their possible extinction, and ways that everyday people, like you, can prevent their decline.

Bug Bear

by Patricia Hegarty

and Carmen Saldana

Bear settles down next to a tree for a nap. Just as he's falling asleep, a small bug lands on his nose and decides to make himself comfortable. "You're so soft and squishy," the bug tells Bear. "And you DO have a lot of that warm fur to spare." Bear tries swatting at the bug, stomping around, and jumping up and down, but the bug just won't leave him alone! Then Owl offers to help. Could the clever bird have the perfect solution?
